Andrew Laing

BA(hons) MArch DipArch ARB

Andrew studied at the University of Northumbria (MArch), Lincoln University (BA hons) and the Architectural Association (Professional Diploma), graduating in 2012 and qualifying as a registered architect in 2014. Andrew joined Unit Architects in October 2016 after working for Giles & Pike Architects; a Battersea-based practice that specialises in bespoke private residential projects. Being involved in this sector has given Andrew experience in all RIBA stages of work, and has given him valuable experience working with numerous consultants, contractors, sub-contractors and suppliers to bring numerous small projects from inception to completion. Prior to this position Andrew gained a scholarship with Toh Shimazaki (T-SA) forum. T-SA are a practice that exhibited as part of the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale. The focus of the forum was to produce craftwork based on the brief of the architects role in society. The craftwork involved printing, drawing, sewing, model-making and photography and was based on a cultural investigation into the Elephant and Castle Area in South London. During his part 1 work experience Andrew worked on larger scale residential developments in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, giving him experience working on projects at a larger level of scale and complexity. Andrew has a practical approach to architectural design and enjoys model-making, researching materials, sketching and producing computer generated imagery when developing projects.
